FFA Booster Club Formed

By Kurt VanDeWalle

March 13, 2008

On February 29, about 20 Fillmore Central FFA parents, supporters, and alumni met at FCHS to discuss the formation and organization of a Fillmore Central FFA Booster Club.  Advisor, Kurt VanDeWalle led the meeting and discussion.  The group discussed the goals and objectives of having a booster club, what is already being accomplished because of parents and supporters, and the other possible projects if a club would be formed.

The first project that is already underway and was discussed during the Friday night meeting was the Steak Feed, Silent Auction, & Labor Auction.  These events will be Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Fillmore Central High School gym.  The meal will be served from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm.  Steak fry meal tickets are $10 which includes a steak, baked potato, beans, dinner roll, dessert, and a drink.  Hamburger meal tickets are $5, which includes a hamburger, a bag of chips, beans, dessert, and a drink.  Tickets can be purchased from any FFA member or by contacting Kurt VanDe Walle at 759-3414 or via email at kvandewa@esu6.org.  Proceeds from the steak fry will go to the Booster Club to help it get started financially.  All fundraising facilitated by the booster club directly benefits the FFA members.

Booster Club members will be soliciting local businesses for possible donations for the Silent Auction.  Money raised by the auction will be used for an FFA Scholarship.  The silent bidding will take place during the meal, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  Winning bidders will be announced at 7:15.

The Labor Auction will begin at 7:30 pm in the gym.  Nearly 50 FFA members will be auctioned off to the highest bidder during the live auction.  Each member will work six hours.  This is a great way to support the members with convention and conference expenses and at the same time finish some odd jobs around the farm, home, or barns, washing windows, moving the yard, spring yard clean up, walking beans, babysitting, or anything else that needs another set of hands to get it done.  We do ask that the buyer provide a safe working environment and provides one meal during the six hours of labor.

If you are interested in helping with the steak feed or auctions, are interested in being a part of the booster club, or would like to bid on a worker but can't attend, contact Kurt VanDeWalle at the school (759-3141) or via email at kvandewa@esu6.org.
